My friend M and I have been talking about personal finance and struggling to find a place that we felt connected to our path as singles living abroad. We decided that we needed a place to gather and reflect on financial resources and our learning journey. Mistakes and new connections will be made as we muddle our way through financial independence. So poof here is our blog!

We are teachers who worked together in Japan. This past year, sadly, M has moved away to the land of wine and pasta. We thought this could also give us more insight into how international finances work. M is from the US and I am from Canada originally and now that we live on different continents, we felt we had even more to discover and share.

Because we are expats, we are in the unique situation of funding our retirements with little to none government assistance from our home governments when we repatriate. Sad right?!

In saying all this, we are not financial advisors or trained for giving financial advice. Like mentioned before: we WILL make mistakes and we feel like these are important to share, but don’t make us experts in this field. This is just a place to share our journey to financial independence with each other and others who might be looking for a similar community.

As one of M’s favorite financial books tells us, the path to wealth is not easy, even if the steps are simple.
